Our History

Cape County Private Ambulance Service, Inc. (CCPA) is a leading provider of medical transportation services in Southeast Missouri. Located in Cape Girardeau and founded in 1968 as a private ambulance service, CCPA has played a foundational role in the evolution of both emergency medical services (EMS) and non-emergency medical transportation across the region.

Throughout its history, CCPA has consistently advanced the clinical and operational standards of care. Notable milestones include:

  • 1968: First in the region to provide trained ambulance attendants
  • 1973: First to employ Missouri State Licensed Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)
  • 1979: First to deploy EMT-Paramedics
  • 1995: First to implement certified Emergency Medical Dispatchers (EMDs)
  • 1998: First to introduce in-field 12-lead ECG technology
  • 2008: First to place a dedicated bariatric transport unit into service
  • 2010: First to achieve national accreditation for its medical dispatch center
  • 2018: Instituted Highly Infectious Disease transport capability
  • 2020: Provided onsite COVID testing and support for local nursing homes
  • 2022: Started using cardiac monitors that provide continuous real-time telemetry of multiple biologic parameters to receiving hospitals
  • 2025: Joined Pulsara, a statewide initiative to improve prehospital communications and patient tracking in a mass casualty event
